3. CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF ARIZONA:
One day later Arizona’s Gov. Brewer signed into law the toughest bill on illegal immigration. In the NY Times, opponents called it an open invitation for discrimination against Latinos: “It requires police officers to detain people they reasonably suspect are in the country without authorization. 
It also makes it a state crime to not carry immigration papers.” History has taught us that the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution of ethnic groups begins almost unnoticed and can be hidden behind political verbiage, for example anti-Semitism. I also think of images of “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes”,the failed 4th sequel in the famous film series in which USA in 1991 becomes an oppressive and fascist culture of uniformed classes and castes, based upon ape slave labor.
I am not making light of the issue. Rent it and think seriously about Arizona’s bill SB 1070. Maybe Mun2 (an NBC-owned TV station that caters to 2nd and post generation Latinos in the U.S.) should play clips of “Conquest” on its web page and ask users to post them everywhere. No other group in the U.S. is more ready to tackle this issue. Generation Mun2 is technologically wired (they lead mobile web growth in the U.S.) They are clearly vocal about every thing and anything - from comic books to politics. Toño Diaz from Archie Comics was also very hi tech. If he were back at Riverdale he would be recruiting advocates against the AZ bill on and off line. In the process, he would make the town a better place.
